General Definition of Work

Performs work responsible for providing key customer service, administrative and technical support to department operations and executes departmental projects.

 

Essential Functions

Provides administrative, customer service and technical support for the Parks and Recreation Department and all divisions. Prepares correspondence, renews memberships and licensing within the department; prepares reports, updates and oversees budget and accounting detail, including notices, bid and procurement requisitions and receiving’s, budget transfers, and assists in accounting aspects department wide

Works closely with staff and our City’s Finance Department on compliance to City accepted budgeting and financial practices. Provides assistance to department staff regarding account balances, payables and receivables. Creates and provides for the general oversight of cash handling processes within the department and ensures best practices are being communicated and adhered.

Handles sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner according to City policies and procedures. Provides for secure and accurate record keeping both electronic and paper file systems. Provides back up to other administrative positions as necessary.

Executes general and specific administrative initiatives and support including special project assistance to Department Director and Division leaders including oversight and accounting of construction projects (Special taxes, grants or other funds), special events, Foundations and partnership programs.

Communicates effectively with citizens, board members, sponsors and other agencies. Takes minutes, prepares documents/reports and provides overall administrative support for various boards and committees.

Supports customer service functions of the Parks & Recreation Administrative Office by meeting and greeting customers, answering questions and inquiries, offering assistance and answering incoming citizen’s calls and emails.

Provides assistance for department conducted events and activities as requested that require work outside of normal business hours.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills in office management and administrative principles.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position related the Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Department to make well-informed, mission related decisions.

Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

 

Salary per hour $18.58, plus a generous benefit package.

  • Bi-weekly pay periods.
  • Twelve paid holidays per year.
  • 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
  • 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
  • days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
  • City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
  • City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).

  • Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $27.98 hourly/$58,202 yearly.
