POSITION TYPE: Hourly, Non-Exempt


JOB SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for the operation of heavy and light equipment in support of the maintenance of the city’s stormwater system; performs duties in the maintenance and operation of the River Flood Protection System.   

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Operates front-end loaders, tractors and mowers, spray equipment, excavators, backhoes, track loaders, dozers, and other equipment.
  • Maintains ditches and performs repairs on storm sewers.
  • Loads materials onto dump trucks
  • Assists in seasonal snow and ice removal.
  • Prepares job sites for future construction and excavation work.
  • Mows city maintained areas, including creeks, channels, and basins.
  • Assists with weed abatement program, including application of herbicides.
  • Fogs for mosquitoes.
  • Responds to emergency calls as needed.
  • Performs maintenance and operational duties at Floodwall Pump Stations and Levee System which includes working rotating shifts during periods when river is above flood stage.
  • Responds to stormwater and sewer maintenance needs as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of the tools, techniques, and equipment used in stormwater maintenance.
  • Knowledge of drainage pump station operations.
  • Knowledge of job site preparation and erosion control procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of backhoes, dozers, excavators, and other related equipment.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduation or equivalent and one (1) year of related experience is required
  • Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement or obtain within eight (8) months of placement in this position.  (Permit must be obtained within first two months and permanent CDL must be obtained within the consecutive six (6) month period) of placement in this position.

The total compensation value for this position is $26.62 hourly/$55,371 yearly, which consists of the starting hourly rate plus the benefit package.
