POSITION TYPE: Hourly, Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for collecting recyclables and refuse on residential routes. 

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Collects refuse on residential routes throughout the city.
  • Collects recyclables on residential routes throughout the city.
  • Assists with dumping materials at the Transfer Station and Recycling Center.
  • Performs truck safety inspections on a daily basis; washes trucks on a weekly basis..
  • Assists the driver in traffic control.
  • Assists with the pickup of appliances, compost and bulk refuse during Wednesday special trash collections..
  • Performs the work of a Solid Waste Driver in his or her absence.
  • Assists at the Recycling Facility as assigned; processes recyclables; operates Recycling Center equipment, and maintains the grounds around the recycling center.
  • Assists at the Transfer Station as assigned; processing single stream recycling, monitoring refuse dumped; loading refuse into trailers and preparing the trailers for transport; loading and hauling white goods and compost material; maintain the grounds around the Transfer Station.
  • Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of City Solid Waste truck routes.
  • Knowledge of the vehicles and equipment used in Solid Waste processes.
  • Knowledge of department, state, and federal safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of accepted waste in both the trash and recycling streams
  •  Skill in the operation of collection vehicles, forklifts, roll-off trucks, hi-lifts and backhoes.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.

BENEFITS:

The total compensation value for this position is $26.62 hourly/$55,371 yearly, which consists of the starting hourly rate plus the benefit package.
