General Definition of Work

Performs works responsible for the manual work involved in the maintenance and repairing of the water facilities and equipment for the City of Cape Girardeau.

 

Essential Functions

Operates a variety of equipment and vehicles including backhoes, service vehicles, trailer, sludge removing equipment, tapping machines and others as needed or directed.

 Oversees an assigned crew to ensure project or service request is completed according to set standards and procedures; trains crew members according to local, state and federal standards.

Oversees or performs preventive maintenance and repair on all water treatment equipment, including any mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure proper and safe operations.

Ensures crew complies with city, state and federal safety regulations, inspects equipment to ensure cleanliness and proper working condition.

 Responds to after-hour and emergency call outs with appropriate equipment and personnel.

May be required to be on call evenings and weekends and to work long hours outside in all weather conditions.

 Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in construction, repair, installation, piping or other mechanical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge skills and abilities.

 Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and maintain a valid Class “A” license with airbrake endorsement.

 

Salary per hour $19.89, plus a generous benefit package.

  • Bi-weekly pay periods.
  • Twelve paid holidays per year.
  • 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
  • 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
  • 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year.
  • City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.

  • Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

  • Total compensation value for this position is $29.46 hourly/$61,272 yearly, which consists of starting hourly rate plus the benefit package.
