General Definition of Work
Performs work responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing and overhauling city vehicles and equipment for the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
● Performs preventative maintenance on city vehicles and equipment.
● Troubleshoots and diagnoses engine failures; repairs diesel, gasoline and propane engines.
● Assists concrete crew as needed; builds forms, pours concrete and finished concrete.
● Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
● Operates appropriate diagnostic equipment.
● Maintains and repairs hydraulic cylinders, pumps and motors.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalency and three (3) years experience required.
● Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
● Preference may be given for ASE certification or other appropriate specialized training.
Salary per hour $19.89, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $29.46 hourly/$61,272 yearly.
