POSITION TYPE: Hourly, Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment; rebuild equipment, including gearboxes and electrical motors at the wastewater treatment facility and lift stations.
- Reads and interprets complex information from manuals, diagrams and schematics to perform maintenance, repair and replacement activities for plant equipment, electronics and facilities.
- Maintain and repairs lift stations in the City of Cape Girardeau; clean rag screening equipment, back-flush pumps, and remove grease from wet wells.
- Monitor the supervisory control and data acquisition system; Assist in programming and maintaining the supervisory control and data acquisition system; program logic controllers; program wireless modems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using voltage meter, resistance measurement device, continuity meter and amp meter; install new electrical services.
- Paint equipment and buildings.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Perform biosolids testing; treat biosolids to ensure compliance with EPA 503 regulations: transport biosolids.
- Work non standard hours as required.
- Perform lab tests.
- Respond to emergency call out situations as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
- Skill in the repair and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment and procedures.
- Skill in the analysis and diagnosis of equipment problems.
- Skill in the operation of trucks and other heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of computer programming, maintenance, and software applications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electronic schematic drawings, and manufacturer’s installation/repair instructions.
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduation or equivalency required and three (3) years related experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
- Must possess or obtain within two (2) years of the first day of employment a Missouri Class “D” wastewater license.
- Must possess a Missouri Class “E” CDL license. Will be required to obtain and maintain a valid Class “A” CDL license with tanker endorsement.
Salary per hour $22.18, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Thirteen paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $31.18 hourly.
