General Definition of Work
Performs work responsible for the operation and maintenance of the activated sludge treatment plant in accordance with state discharge requirements, lift stations and related facilities, programs and activities for the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
● Monitors and adjust SCADA system to optimize plant and lift station operations.
● Maintains and monitors wastewater treatment process to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations; operates plant equipment including SBR basins, automatic bar screens, grit removal units, waste activated sludge tanks, UV disinfection, standby power generators, blowers, pumps, motors, electrical controls and valves and documents areas of concern.
● Participates in the biosolids program; operates the dryer, centrifuge(s), polymer feed and associated equipment to ensure EPA 503 regulations are met to produce a class “A” exceptional quality material.
● Assists with maintenance duties on plant and biosolids equipment.
● Assists in the operation, repair and maintenance of lift stations to ensure reliability of flow.
● Completes week-end lab testing as required
● Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalency required.
● Must be willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts as required (when operating the dryer).
● Must possess or obtain within two (2) years of the first day of employment a Missouri Class “D” wastewater license.
● Must possess a valid Class “E” driver’s license.
Salary per hour $19.52, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $29.19 hourly/$60,706 yearly.
