General Definition of Work
Performs administrative and technical duties to support the City of Cape Girardeau Police Department.
Essential Functions
● Drafts and prepares correspondence for evidence collection, preservation and storage.
● Assists with budget preparation; prepares requisitions and receiving reports.
● Maintains evidence records.
● Assists with citizen inquiries and resolving issues.
● Assists in seeking grants within the forensics science discipline.
● Organizes, assigns and stores evidence into evidence vault locations; maintains chain of custody for all evidence/found property; transports evidence to and from crime lab.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalency. Have knowledge and level of competency associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school.
● Valid driver’s license.
● No felony convictions
Salary per hour $18.95, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $28.26 hourly/$58,789 yearly.
