General Definition of Work
Performs work responsible for preventing collisions between aircraft by organizing and expediting the flow of air traffic for the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
● Provides for the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic.
● Originates, delivers and relays clearances authorizing the movement of aircraft, vehicles and personnel on the airport; coordinates with other air traffic control agencies to ensure the safe movement of aircraft; relays all movement information of aircraft.
● Issues air traffic advisories to alert pilot to traffic and obstacles.
● Contacts local law enforcement and airport security in the event of an emergency.
● Participates in supplemental training.
● Provides weather updates and hourly reports; monitors ASOS.
● Monitors all electronic aids to navigations, including runway lighting, taxiway lighting, approach lighting, wind instruments, clocks, altimeters, ASOS monitors and the dictaphone panel.
● Performs the duties of the Controller in Charge (CIC).
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
● Thorough knowledge of FAA Handbook 7110.65
● Must possess a previous facility rating.
● Possess Air Traffic Control (CTO) Certificate.
● Possess METAR Certification.
● Possess FAA Class II Medical Certification.
Salary per hour $34.48, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $47.96 hourly/$99,765 yearly.
