POSITION TYPE: Hourly, Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for event coordination and management as well as general maintenance of city facilities and grounds.


MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with the Facility Manager or designee in coordination of setup, supervision, breakdown, and cleanup of events at the A.C. Brase Arena, Osage Centre, Sportsplex or assigned facility.
  • Reads and interprets main floor/meeting room floor plans setup requests and executes them.
  • Serves as the public facing point of contact for the City of Cape Girardeau during events.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and problem resolution and effectively communicates with guests and staff during events
  • Lead and assist in physical movement of tables and chairs, risers, supplies and materials for main floor events and meeting room setups.
  • Leads and participates in the clean-up after events and meetings including custodial duties, cleaning equipment, damage assessment and contract billing hours.
  • Conducts regular physical inspections of facilities including meeting rooms, main floor, hallways, fitness area, common areas, restrooms and offices, equipment, grounds and premises noting anything in need of repair, maintenance or clean-up and provide any necessary repairs, maintenance or clean-up needed.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Leads and assists in maintaining a clean and organized appearance in all areas of the facility.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment. Develops and implements preventative maintenance programs for city facilities.
  • Assists with leading full time and part time crews and staff on daily assigned duties.
  • Responds to facilities after normal business hours including evening, weekends and holidays.
  • Participates in a weekend rotation with other Facility Services Assistants for the effective coverage and management of scheduled facility events.
  • Performs regular custodial and cleaning duties as prescribed by facility management. Directs staff in daily cleaning and custodial duties.
  • Assists in meeting with potential renters of facilities.
  • Performs and leads staff in facility grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming and snow removal.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
  • Possess exceptional customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to effectively communicate with and lead full and part time staff.
  • Have basic knowledge in the operation of a computer.
  • Knowledge of facility maintenance equipment and operation.
  • Knowledge of floor care practices and application.
  • Ability to prioritize job duties based on need and necessity.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies and maintaining sanitary conditions.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques for building and grounds.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines.
  • The ability to understand and enforce Fire Codes and ADA Compliance Standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
  • Qualified applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

Salary per hour $17.67, plus a generous benefit package.

  • Bi-weekly pay periods.
  • Thirteen paid holidays per year.
  • 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
  • 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
  • 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
  • City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
  • City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
  • Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
  • Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
  • Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

  • Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $25.80 hourly/$53,672.20 yearly.
